Human Design

A self-inquiry system that combines astrology, the I Ching, Kabbalah, and the chakra model into a chart (bodygraph) with a type, strategy, and authority.

Human Design was created in 1987 by Alan Robert Krakower, known as Ra Uru Hu, as a synthesis of several older systems: astrological planetary positions, the 64 hexagrams of the I Ching, the Kabbalistic Tree of Life, and the Hindu chakra model. Using your birth date, time, and place — calculated twice, once for the moment of birth and once for roughly 88 days before it — the system builds a bodygraph: a chart of nine centers connected by channels. Defined (colored-in) centers show the stable part of your nature; undefined centers show where you're sensitive to the people around you. The configuration of centers produces a type (Generator, Manifesting Generator, Projector, Manifestor, Reflector), each with its own strategy for engaging the world, plus an authority — an inner decision-making mechanism. Unlike astrology, which describes the symbolic context of your birth, Human Design centers on practical experimentation: the system asks you not to take the description on faith, but to test your strategy and authority against your own lived experience over several months.
