Most horoscopes only ever use your Sun sign, which is why they can feel like they're describing a stranger. The Sun is real, but it's only a third of the picture — your Moon sign shapes your inner emotional life, often more accurately than the Sun does, and your Rising sign explains why people's first impression of you sometimes doesn't match how you actually feel inside.
The Sun and Moon only need your birth date to calculate accurately. The Rising sign is different: it changes roughly every two hours, so it needs your exact birth time and city. If you don't know your time of birth, this calculator will still give you an honest, accurate Sun and Moon — and flag clearly what it can't tell you yet.

The Rising sign is the zodiac sign that was on the eastern horizon at the exact moment you were born, and it changes roughly every two hours. Even a birth time that's off by an hour can shift it to a neighboring sign, so we only show it when you give us a time you actually trust.
Yes — and usually it is. The Moon moves through the entire zodiac in about 27 days, changing signs every two to three days, while the Sun stays in one sign for about a month. It's completely normal, and often more revealing, for your Moon sign to feel like a different personality than your Sun.
You'll still get an accurate Sun sign always, and an accurate Moon sign most of the time — we'll flag it if your birth date falls close to a Moon sign change. The Rising sign is the one placement that truly requires a time, so we show an honest note instead of guessing.
