Your Personal Year Number is the numerology forecast that changes every year on the calendar, showing the theme that colors the twelve months ahead — unlike your Life Path Number, which never changes. Where Life Path describes who you fundamentally are, Personal Year describes the weather you're walking through right now: whether it favors starting, building, resting, or releasing.
The math is simple and entirely yours to check: add the digits of your birth day, your birth month, and the current calendar year, then reduce the total to a single digit — unless it lands on a Master Number, 11 or 22, which stays as is. Say you were born on May 17th: reduce day 17 to 1+7=8, keep month 5, add the digits of the current year, then reduce that sum again until one digit (or a master number) remains. Your birth year itself never enters the calculation — only the day, the month, and the year you're forecasting.
Numerology sees time in nine-year cycles that repeat for life: a Personal Year 1 always opens a fresh cycle, and a Personal Year 9 always closes one, with 2 through 8 carrying you through cooperation, expression, structure, change, responsibility, reflection, and harvest in between. Once you know where you are in the cycle, the ups and downs of a given year stop feeling random — they read as a season with its own logic, the same way winter always follows autumn.
Your Life Path Number is fixed for life — it's calculated from your full birth date and describes your core nature. Your Personal Year Number changes every year — it's calculated from just your birth day and month plus the current year, and describes the theme of the twelve months you're in right now.
Add the digits of your birth day, your birth month, and the current calendar year together, then reduce the total to a single digit (1-9) — unless the sum lands exactly on a Master Number, 11 or 22, which is kept unreduced. Your birth year doesn't factor into the calculation at all.
Most numerologists calculate the Personal Year using the calendar year starting January 1st, which is what this calculator uses so your monthly grid lines up with the actual calendar. Some traditions instead switch the Personal Year on your birthday — if that's the version you follow, just enter next year's date on your birthday to see it change.
When your Personal Year calculation lands on 11 or 22 before final reduction, numerology treats it as a Master Number year — an intensified version of 2 (for 11) or 4 (for 22), carrying more potential and more pressure than an ordinary year. They show up rarely, roughly one year in eleven, which is part of why they feel significant when they do.
