Sacral Authority

Sacral Authority is one type of "inner compass" in the Human Design system: decisions are checked through a body-level "yes" or "no" response to direct questions.

Sacral Authority belongs to Human Design, a system that combines astrology, Kabbalah, the I Ching, and the chakra system into a model for decision-making. Sacral Authority belongs to the "Generator" and "Manifesting Generator" types — roughly 70% of people under this system; it sits in the sacral center and shows up not as a thought but as an instant bodily response — a sound, a tightening or release in the gut — to a specific yes/no question. Rather than long back-and-forth weighing of pros and cons, Sacral Authority proposes checking a decision in the moment: hear the question and notice the first bodily reaction that appears, before the mind has time to bring in arguments. Proponents of the method see this reaction as more honest than logical reasoning, since it's less shaped by social pressure and self-deception. For self-knowledge, the value isn't in blindly following the gut response as the final word, but in the practice itself: learning to tell a quick bodily reaction apart from a layered-on "I think I'm supposed to want this" — and at least naming that difference out loud before an important decision.
