Lunar Node

The Lunar Nodes aren't physical bodies but mathematical points where the Moon's orbit crosses the ecliptic (the Sun's path); they always sit opposite each other, in opposite signs. The South Node is traditionally read as the zone of already-mastered experience, familiar strategies, and comfort a person unconsciously falls back on under stress; the North Node marks the direction worth consciously growing toward, even if it feels unfamiliar or uncomfortable at first. A South Node in Cancer and a North Node in Capricorn, for example, describe a shift away from over-reliance on family and emotional safety toward greater independence and structure. The Nodes move retrograde and complete a full circuit of the zodiac roughly every 18.6 years, so their position is also used to date major life cycles. For self-knowledge, the Nodes are useful as a compass rather than a route map: they don't tell you exactly what to do, only the general vector — from the familiar toward what calls for conscious development — and choosing to move in that direction is always up to you.
