Aura
The aura is the idea of a subtle energy field around the body, used across traditions to talk about mood, wellbeing, and the impression a person leaves on others.
The idea of an aura — an invisible field surrounding the body — appears in Indian, Theosophical, and later New Age traditions, described in layers, colors, or "density," though there's no scientific evidence such a field exists. In everyday, practical terms, "aura" works more as a metaphor for overall impression: what other people sense in your presence before any words are exchanged. Phrases like "heavy aura" or "bright aura" describe not a mystical fact but a state — fatigue, anxiety, inspiration — read through body language, tone of voice, micro-expressions. In traditions that work with chakras, the aura is treated as the outward expression of the balance of the body's energy centers: when the chakras are "clear," the field is described as even and light. For self-knowledge, it's more useful not to hunt for the aura literally but to use the concept as an invitation to check in with yourself: what am I broadcasting right now through my presence, and does it match what I actually feel? It's a reflective practice of self-attention, not a diagnosis.
